Helen Lyon

Composer & Musician

"I came across Mamas at a point in my career when I felt alone juggling being a mum whilst having a creative career. How relieved and encouraged I was to discover a whole community of inspiring, enthusiastic, supportive, happy and encouraging mamas all working whilst juggling kids. It is the most amazing community of support and creativity and it’s a privilege to be part of it."

"When you become a mum, there's basically less room for BS and there's less room for fear because you're almighty, and it's not only that you've given birth, but it's the daily giving and surrendering constantly to a love that requires you to see and be in completely different way, to face your own stuff over and over again, so in that way, it frees you. But in another way, facing the industry, it's like I haven't got the capacity that I did to fight before, because women have to fight so much harder to get anywhere in the industry, full stop."

Being a mother and a music artist felt like a long, lonely road until I connected with Mamas In Music. I feel like I finally found my tribe who gets how hard it is to balance these two parts of my identity.

MiM has given me a community where I can fully embrace being both a musician and a mama. It's empowering to be part of a movement that values what we do, both at home and on stage.
