Thuso Wa Sibini is a dynamic Dance Music artist, originally born and bred in a township called Alexandra. Her passion for music is deeply rooted in feeding souls through her music with an infectious energy and unique ability to blend vibrant dance beats with gospel lyrics, Thuso has crafted a distinctive sound that uplifts and inspires. Her journey in music began long before stepping into the spotlight as an independent recording artist in 2019, with years spent honing her skills in the rich tapestry of choral and Opera music.

Thuso’s career has seen her grace major stages and earning a nomination for some of South Africa’s most prestigious awards of independent artist such as the Ingoma Awards.Beyond the stage Thuso is a Project management Assistant at the Africa Rising Music Conference and a broadcaster on Radio Veritas where she does a Sunday afternoon Choral, classical and Opera Music show. She is also a voice over artist and a corporate TV presenter.

Thuso also has an avid passion for music education and is involved in many organizations that educate independent artists on the business of music. Thuso is also one of the leaders spearheading the launch of Mamas In Music Africa.

Q&A

Please tell us something about yourself that isn't music or parenting related?

I like to call myself a concoctionist - Whenever I or my family is sick I first mix up natural ingredients before going to the doctor, they always taste horrible but super effective.

What’s the best thing about being a mama in this industry?

The ability to actively show my children that they must always strive to do everything to reach their dream.Me being able to be in the industry and do what i do on a daily basis gives me the satisfaction of one day being able to look back and say ..."I want to go for my dreams the same way I watched my mom go for hers"

What’s your greatest challenge?

Apart from the cost of being a fully functional artist, it has to be the freedom to take any gig at any time.

What piece of advice do you have for mothers + future mothers trying to navigate a career in the music industry?

Motherhood brings about inevitable changes to your entire life (even if you have an active father in your life) , the changes of motherhood are far beyond any help you can get.A piece of advice i wish i had received is to just accept that you may never be able to do every single thing that you used to be able to do before motherhood.Those late night gigs and studio sessions will be very limited and almost impossible and that is okay.Do what you can when you can at your own pace and own time.There is no race, you are just as much an Alchemist to your child as you are to your fans.Be ok with your music career changing to suit your new Mommy title.
